Glenn Spencer to the Sierra Vista Herald

7/29/02

The Sierra Vista Herald claims that American Border Patrol will be a "modern-day, high-tech, vigilante posse." I developed the plan for American Border Patrol. There is nothing in this plan that involves the use of a "vigilante posse." Before the plan was finished, it was reviewed by our board members, former Chief U.S. Border Patrol Agent, Bill King, and former Chief of the Tucson Sector, Ron Sanders. I can assure you that even the hint of a "vigilante posse" would have caused both King and Sanders to repudiate American Border Patrol without hesitation.

The idea that these highly respected former senior officials of the U.S. Border Patrol would associate themselves with a vigilante group is pure poppycock.

The Sierra Vista Herald's attack on American Border Patrol is an insult to Bill King and Ron Sanders and the people of Arizona and smacks of yellow journalism.

When the people of Southern Arizona finally learn the truth about American Border Patrol, they may ask themselves why the Sierra Vista Herald is wrongfully smearing an effort by dedicated Americans that is truly in their best interests.
