911FSA Families and Friends:
I am sending you this email to provide you with an account of an event Joan Molinaro and I attended on behalf of 9-11FSA at the F.M. Kirby Center entitled “An Evening with Vicente Fox.” Also attending this event with me was Joanna Marzullo of New Yorkers for Immigration Control and Enforcement, and Frank Scavo, Chairman of Voice of the People USA, a grassroots group opposed to illegal immigration, located in Hazleton Pennsylvania.
Prior to the event, we attended a press conference in the Ramada Inn located across the street from the F.M. Kirby Center. In my opinion the press conference was poorly attended by the media even though they were invited to attend by Voice of the People USA in order to report on our perspective. The event was attended by over sixty citizens and the usual supporters of anti- illegal alien events. If you are interested you can find video of the event at www.diggersrealm.com or www.usillegalaliens.com (good sites to get information about this national security issue).
After the press conference we went to the protest in the public square across the street from the Kirby Center. There were about a hundred and fifty people holding American Flags and signs with messages such as “Fox Go Home”, “We Support Legal Immigration not Illegal Immigration”, “Close the Borders”, etc. After saying the pledge of Alliance and listening to a few speeches from citizens, we crossed the street to the Kirby Center to hear and be “enlighten” by Vicente Fox.
When we made our way to our seats the theatre was half empty, but within ten minutes the theatre was nearly full. Most of those in attendance were students from the local high schools and surrounding community colleges. It appeared to me that the adults in attendance were teachers and professors and their spouses.
The president of Wilkes University, Tim Gilmour, introduced the former president of Mexico as the man who is bringing the new economy to Latin America. He said that Vicente Fox will discuss his business-centered approach to the development of Mexico and the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), as well as the opportunities available for international corporations in the region.
El Presidente appeared on the stage from behind a curtain to thunderous applause. His first words were in Spanish greeting all his Mexican children and friends. From that point forward the dishonest rhetoric was non stop. He was saying things such as if someone is working then they are not illegally in the United States, we are all Americans, anyone who uses hateful speech about immigrants is a xenophobe. The premise of his speech was that borders between Mexico and the United States should not contain walls but “bridges of Love”. He compared the border wall being built on our Southern border to the Berlin wall, the audience applauded wildly after each lie and distortion. It seemed to me from their acceptance of these lies that these young people have not been taught correctly about this subject.
As the speech progressed I spoke to Frank with dismay at the audience’s acceptance of this obvious propaganda, arousing displeasure from the people in the front and back of me. Security in the theater approached me and asked me to leave. I refused, but they insisted. I agreed to leave if my money would be refunded. They agreed, but when I got to the lobby, they refused to give me my money back.
I didn’t mind leaving the event because I could not listen to the lies and propaganda any longer. I plan to take the matter of payment up with the credit card company to see if I can get my money refunded.
I was able to sit through about fifteen minutes of gut retching lies before I was ejected, Joan on the other hand was ejected after Fox’s first lie – the greeting to the audience - saying hello to all his immigrant Mexican countrymen. When she corrected him by saying you mean Illegal Aliens, she was expelled.
The most important thing I came away with from this experience is that our children are being indoctrinated, not educated. Katherine Dezinski, 21, said her attendance at Fox’s speech was a mandatory requirement for her personal and professional development class at Wilkes, but she was looking forward to hearing what the former Mexican leader had to say. http://www.timesleader.com:80/news/20071106_06_FoxProtest_ART.html
It is up to us as citizens to not only educate ourselves but our children and insist that we know what they are learning in school. This is a very scary situation and citizen involvement is the only solution to combat this very serious problem. The improper use of language with terms such as illegal aliens, immigrants, or undocumented immigrants, or as Mr... Fox said, we are all Americans if we are working hard, is just nuts. All this improper use of language is impressionable to young students and is being doled out to them by their teachers and professors. Our future as a nation is at stake and my hope is that more citizens get involved in these issues at all levels.
Thanks. Bruce.
