SPLC Wins -- Arizona Loses
"Hate" Attack Trumps Free Speech
American Patrol Report -- March 18
The headlines across the nation made it clear that the mainstream media bought in to the claim by the Southern Poverty Law Center that Glenn Spencer runs a hate group. But this is nothing new.
Five years ago, USA Today reported: "The Southern Poverty Law Center has accused ABP of abusing and illegally detaining immigrants, and the center lists ABP as a hate group." ABP protested these outrageous lies and USA Today promised to print a retraction -- but didn't.
Two years ago, the SPLC came to Phoenix to warn Joe Arpaio not to work with ABP. Did he listen? Here is a photo of Joe at ABP's headquarters last summer when he signed one of his posters with "To Glenn -- thanks for your dedication."
"In addition to outright lies, the SPLC has attacked me for saying what I believe the facts support," Spencer said, "and that is an attempt to suppress free speech, pure and simple."
Anyone who still takes the SPLC seriously should read Southern Poverty Law Center Completes Its Descent Into Madness, by a Cornell Law School professor.
The SPLC's outrageous attacks are not surprising. What is surprising is that they would intimidate a Republican Arizona State Senator.
