The Third Front
Ollie North's "Sensational" Border Report
Glenn Spencer -- American Patrol Report -- November 28
Last night Fox News ran Ollie North's The Third Front, which examined the border problem in a comprehensive, wide ranging survey. He talked to all the right people, including rancher Jack Ladd and Sheriff Babeu of Pinal County. He made extensive use of video taken by - adding significantly to overall credibility. He had the cooperation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Mexican government.
The Third Front paints a very grim picture of the border. It makes the case that our border must be protected. But, alas, it said nothing about why it isn't being protected in the first place.
I was upset that North didn't talk to me about border problems, as I was sure he was aware of the work of . Upon reflection, I think I understand why.
Ollie North, Fox News, and other outlets need the cooperation of the government to do their job. Had North wanted to ask why DHS didn't finish the border fence as specified in the , they would never have worked with him -- nor would they cooperate with Fox on future projects. The subject of the border fence is simply off limits to any news agency that wants to ride along in government helicopters and interview U.S. Border Patrol officials.
The Third Front was "sensational," but not prescriptive. It is up to the people to get the border fence issue on the front burner in Washington, D.C., so Ollie and others can talk about it without fear of retribution by the Obama administration.
