Missing In Action
Where Is The Predator?
American Border Patrol -- January 23

National Geographic Television is running a series on Customs and Border Protection. It is called "Border Wars."
Last Sunday the Border Wars segment focused on night operations near Nogales, Arizona. With the close cooperation of the Department of Homeland Security, Nat Geo gave us a close-up look at the Predator B unmanned aerial vehicle and how the Border Patrol uses ground sensors to detect illegal border crossers.
American Border Patrol, America's experts on the border, took a close look at the "nighttime" segment and raised some questions. Specifically, ABP wants to know why the Predator UAVs don't seem to get much action. Nat Geo shows how agents respond to alarms from the ground sensors and spend hours trying to track down the intruders. They don't explain why the Predators aren't used to do this.
In an 8-minute video, ABP shows how the Predator could be used to save lives and stop smugglers. It asks why Nat Geo didn't explain why this isn't being done.
ABP was a pioneer in the use of UAVs in conjunction with ground sensors and its expertise lends credibility to this question.
