Perry Sending Supermen to Border
Only 1 National Guardsmen Needed for 50 Miles of Border
American Patrol Report -- September 14
According to press reports, Texas governor Rick Perry will deploy 200 National Guard members to the Mexican border to aid Texas Rangers in quelling border violence.
According to the reports, the campaign of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is challenging Perry for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, called his announcement more "empty rhetoric and broken promises."
Since the border region is subject to violence 24 hours a day, seven days a week, of the 200 Guardsmen only about 40 would be on duty and any one time. As the border with Mexico is 1969 miles long, it means that each member of the Guard would be responsible for 50 miles of it. "Even Superman would have a hard time policing 50 miles of winding border," said Glenn Spencer of American Border Patrol.
Perry has a very bad record on border and illegal immigration issues, and opposes building a border fence, the only thing that has proven to work.
