Borderline Negligence
San Diego Fence Left Undone

Now that the Department of Homeland Security has completed construction of the border fence in California (with one minor exception) some conclusions can be drawn. One conclusion is that DHS's Custom and Border Security displayed gross negligence in deciding where new fencing was to be installed.
According to a report released by American Border Patrol
, CBP left intact miles of old ten-foot airport mat fencing that has proven to be ineffective in stopping people from entering the U.S. illegally. Not only that, CBP even failed to close many gaps in the old fencing through which people and drugs can easily move.
According to Glenn Spencer, head of ABP, the small amount of new fencing that was installed at San Diego is of the type used at ABP's ranch in Arizona. "This 18-foot concrete-filled steel beam fencing has proven to be very effective," Spencer said. "I have spoken to many BP agents, and to-a-man, they say no one has crossed the five-mile segment protected by this new fencing," he added.
Critics ask why CBP would go to the trouble of installing some new, effective, fencing while at the same time leaving miles of old useless fencing in place. "One is forced to draw the conclusion that the government is not really interested in protecting our border," Spencer said.
