Still Delaying The Day of Reckoning
Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt
Glenn Spencer -- American Patrol Report -- May 23
In early 1992, the late Shirley Lertzman and I formed Voice of Citizens Together, a citizen's action group dedicated to understanding the problem of illegal immigration. Shirley was just retiring after 17 years on the Los Angeles County Grand Jury, an unusual grand jury as, in addition to its traditional duties, it performed studies of issues of concern to the county. One of those issues was illegal immigration and the Grand Jury was just completing a study of its impact.
Being highly respected in the county Shirley was able to obtain a draft copy of another study of illegal immigration just being completed by a panel of experts working under a Congressional charter for the L.A. County Board of Supervisors.
The study focused on economics and was peer-reviewed. At was stunning. Not only did illegal aliens cost the county hundreds of millions of dollars, they paid very little in the way of taxes.
Having studied economics I understood that if the trend of illegal immigration were to continue, California would face a grim future. In September of 1992, my monthly newsletter bore the headline: "L.A. County's Number One Import: Poverty." This poverty has not only bankrupted the state, it has destroyed its education and health systems.
Now, 17 years later, what I feared has come to pass. Illegal immigration has destroyed California, and, short of the repatriation of all illegal aliens, the state is lost forever. Mexicans are used to poverty and will stay in California. American will leave and, if Obama gets his amnesty, California will soon be a northern Mexican annex. Those who refuse to face these facts can wallow in their folly all they want, but even they will awaken as much harder undeniable truths unfold before them. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
