ABP aerial surveys spotted hundreds of vehicle trails entering the Goldwater Range from Mexico. Prior to the construction of the new fence, there was absolutely nothing to stop people and vehicles from entering the range. There weren’t even any “no trespassing” signs. This, in-and-of-itself, is incredible.
It is likely that there is an element of truth about the successful use of radar on the Goldwater bombing range. The Goldwater has very flat, smooth ground (sand) with few of the types of washes in which illegals can hide. It is possible that the military spotted illegals and vehicles on the range. It is also likely that they spotted very few in 2008, not because they used the radar to guide Border Patrol agents for apprehensions, but because the fence had stopped them.
