A Two-Way Street?
Non-essential Travel Should Mean Both Ways
Lou Dobbs Tonight -- CNN -- April 28
Lou Dobbs: ...The acting head of the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Richard Besser, told CNN that Americans should delay any trips to Mexico.
Besser: Based on what I know as a public health professional and as a physician, I would not recommend that people go on nonessential travel. So if I have vacation plans for Mexico coming up right now, I would look to postpone those.
Dobbs: The World Health Organization... raised the alert level to a four... but they did not put forward border closures or restrictions of any kind. Are you surprised at that?
Dr. Dan Jernigan, deputy influenza director, CDC: Well, not really. We know that the virus does not respect borders. And this virus can transmit from person to person very quickly. So there are some things that we have done, though. We have put some travel advisories, to say that folks should avoid nonessential travel to Mexico. And that's something that we did as a country. So WHO has made that decision and they are the ones that I think it would be best to talk with them about that.
American Patrol Report Comment: If it makes sense to cut non-essential travel to Mexico, it makes even more sense to cut non-essential travel to the U.S. from Mexico. If it was serious about protecting Americans, our government would curtail all non-essential cross border traffic from Mexico, but we know it isn't.
