On Wednesday national talk show host Lars Larsen interviewed Senator John McCain. Before he did one of our supporters called Larsen and asked him to push McCain to be specific about border control, i.e., what does it mean? Here is the Larsen exchange
Larsen: Will you build the fence?
McCain: Oh yeah, we have to secure the borders first. (talks about the drug problem in Mexico) There is a huge problem of drug cartels on the border. They are talking over towns. They are basically challenging the Mexican government. So it's not only an issue of illegal immigration it's an issue of the drug cartels freely being able to transport drugs across our border and killing Americans.

The Real Questions
Bush is building a fence, but it isn't really a fence. Politicians play word games.
Larsen should have asked McCain: "Please define what border security means and how we will know when we have it."
"Will you move to grant any sort of legal status to illegal aliens while the border is being secured?"
Voters must demand specifics. |
