A recent report in the Los Angeles Times starts out with "The Bush administration warned landowners along the southern border Friday that it would seize their property if they refused to cooperate with federal efforts to build a fence meant to slow illegal immigration."
Reading on in the story, the Times reports: "Chertoff said two-thirds of Texans who were approached agreed to give Homeland Security access to their land, a quarter did not respond, and about 10% refused."
So, the fact is the vast majority of Texas border landowners agreed to cooperate with DHS. And, of the 25% that didn't respond, if the same ratio applies when they finally do respond, DHS can expect a near 90% cooperation rate. That isn't bad.
