As I See it

Chaos in the House of Representatives

Brian Bilbray got it half right when he said "There are people in this town that are willing to break the rules and do extraordinary maneuvers just so that illegal aliens can get benefits." There are people in Washington who will do extraordinary things, not just to get illegal aliens benefits, but to legalize all illegal aliens and merge the United States with Mexico.

These forces see the loss of amnesty in the Senate as just a temporary setback. Their newest strategy is to gain amnesty by gradualism, starting with health care for illegal alien's children (we call it "baby waving"). On the enforcement side, the recent report by Operation B.E.E.F. on the lack of progress on the border has forced them to accelerate their "take no prisoners" job site enforcement. They intend to selectively enforce the law so as to anger as many people as possible in order to build public support for amnesty  before they are forced to build any more fencing, which they fear most of all -- because it works.

ABP's counter-strategy should be to continue to focus on Secretary Chertoff's construction of the border fence. If he continues to refuse to comply with the Secure Fence Act of 2006 in the face of Congressional and public support, he will remove all doubt that President Bush and the powerful forces that are really behind the amnesty movement are working to subvert the Constitution of the United States.
